Competition is heating up for the U.S. electric car leadership claimed by Tesla for the past few years. The Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt are legacy players in the battle, now joined by dozens of new players. Consumers win because they have choice.

The nonprofit and nonpartisan American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) this week released the State Transportation Electrification Scorecard that grades U.S. states on their progress in enabling residents and businesses to use and charge electric vehicles.

The Tesla Model 3, a model they initial downgraded and refused to recommend, made Consumer Report’s prized Top 10 list for 2020.
The ACEEE (American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy) uses its own methodology to determine the most environmentally friendly cars offered for sale. This year they picked 12 top candidates, including the expected electric cars (EVs), but also a variety of gasoline-electric hybrids, topped by the Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid.
The 2020 Wards 10 Best Engines list, which was honed down from 26 nominees, includes four electrified powertrains, including Hyundai’s 150-kilowatt electric drive for the Kona EV and the Honda Accord Hybrid’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine.
Quiet enough for the backyard while still competitive at the track, these five electric motocrossers will get any little racer charged up.
The best selling electric sedan also earns a place in the Top 20 for all U.S. automobiles in July. In July, the Tesla Model 3 set a number of records on the InsideEVs U.S. Plug-In Sales Scorecard.
